| Let us first make a distinction between clinical
lycanthropy, a mental condition in which a patient believes
they are a wolf, and actual lycanthropy, a real transformation. We
are talking about real werewolvery here. There is a great history
of lycanthropy; werewolves and shapeshifters have existed in nearly
every time and place.
NASA would have you believe we know all there is to know about
the moon. But as with much of modern science the more you know,
the more questions you will have. Recent studies have shown that
light from the full moon stimulates the reticular activating system
(RAS) in the Limbic portion of the human brain, leading to easy
excitement and hyperactivity--and then to deviance and crime. (Schamlleger,
CRIMINAL JUSTICE TODAY, 5/E, 2008 Pearson Education, Inc.) We know
the moon exerts tremendous force over the natural (and "supernatural")
forces on earth. Everything from a woman's menstrual cycle to the
ocean tides is effected by the moon, though we rarely stop to notice
it. There is strong scientific evidence to show that intensely deviant
(and even demonic) behavior exists during the full moon.
There modern secular mind does not acknowledge the possibility
of real transformation. However, the Bible teaches us that our bodies
are mere vessels for our souls. If as Christians we concede this
fact, we must also be open to the possibility that the soul could
change vessels. Or, perhaps a soul effected by a demonic possession
could change the very form of its container. But overnight during
a full moon? Full moon transformation may sound hokey but even Einstein
concluded that the gravity of a massive object can actually warp
space-time! (William J. Kaufmann III, STARS AND GALAXIES, Third
Edition, 2007 W.H. Freeman and Company) It is hard to overestimate
the kind of influence an object like the moon could have over someone
already in Satan's grasp.
So we have accepted misfiring synapses
in our brains, the bending of time, and eons of recorded evidence
of demonic possession. If we accept that the devil is real and at
work in our society, as thinking people we must accept the possibility
of werewolves.
